Keeping Austin weird since 2002, when it first escaped the studio, the ACL is here again. A major music festival making a major tribute to the live music capitol of the world, the ACL has 130 bands on 8 stages at Zilker Park in downtown Austin, and now runs 6 days over two weekends. The first weekend is October 2, 3, and 4, from 10 AM until 10 PM each day. This is a family-friendly event with a section for family-oriented music titled Austin Kiddie Limits, where children can also make arts and crafts. For safety, take advantage of Tag-A-Kid in case of separation. This is a huge festival with 220,000 people in total attendance, as many as 75,000 per day, so safety is emphasized.
The Festival also contains an Art market with creations from Austin’s artist community, a General Store, Food Court, ATMs, and rental lockers for personal belongings. This is a highly organized event with acres of information and rules, which are imperative for festival-goers to read. For all information regarding the Festival, please click here. This site also has information regarding parking, bands, transportation, tickets, and requirements. There is no parking at the site; however, there are free shuttle buses originating at Republic Square. Walking, biking and taxis are encouraged as well. There is limited handicapped parking near the entrance, as specified on the above information site.
The music offers something for everyone, with rock, hip-hop, pop and gospel. There are also late-night shows after 10 PM closing each day with separate tickets available. General Admission tickets are already sold out, so be sure to go online to view available tickets and purchase beforehand. The Festival features wristbands if anyone should desire to go cashless, which may be purchased and activated at the site above. Purchases at the Art Market, though, will be cash only.
Named, of course, after the longest running musical show on TV, the event is produced by C3, which also produces Lollapalooza. It is extremely well-organized and everyone is encouraged to read the information available on the ACL website, linked above, in order to ensure a fantastic music festival experience. And enjoy!
